Feb. 14: For Immediate Release – A Conservative motion calling on the government to table a plan to end all federal mandates was rejected by Justin Trudeau, Liberal and NDP MPs today.

“This is a sad day for Canada,” said John Brassard, Barrie-Innisfil Member of Parliament and Opposition House Leader.

“Canadians have been telling us for quite some time that they want COVID restrictions lifted, our economy fully opened up and their lives to return to some normalcy. Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam has said that all public health measures should be re-evaluated.

“The Prime Minister has wedged the pandemic for his own political gain, and he continues stigmatizing and dividing Canadians. Conservatives presented an opportunity to take that important first, but today’s vote is proof that the only science that matters to Justin Trudeau is political science.”

We had an opportunity to take that important first step, but Justin Trudeau and xx Liberal MPs voted instead to continue stigmatizing and dividing Canadians for their own political gain.
Conservatives have repeatedly asked the Liberal government to step up and table a solid extra strategy to support Canadians in all regions and sectors of the country.

“Once again, we are seeing that this government refuses to listen to science and they continue to make decisions based on political science.”

Canada’s Conservatives presented today’s motion to compel Justin Trudeau to end all federal mandates and table a plan to move Canada past the pandemic.

“I was extremely proud to bring forward this motion with Interim Leader Candice Bergen because it reflects what we are hearing from constituents across this country,” Brassard said. “We know Canadians want restrictions and mandates to end – the sooner the better.”

Brassard has been calling for a pandemic exit strategy for well over a year. On March 1, 2021, he issued a joint news release with Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte MP Doug Shipley saying lockdowns and restrictions by default must stop and that we had to manage the virus by using the available tools.

Since the motion was tabled on Feb. 10, he has received hundreds of emails from people across the riding who are tired of living with restrictions and watching the Prime Minister use the pandemic to divide Canadians for his own political gain.

“Life is getting more costly, families are having difficulty making ends meet, seniors have been impacted by two years of isolation and Canadians of all ages are struggling with mental health issues,” Brassard said. “Today the Trudeau government said no to lifting restrictions and no to Canadians who want to move past COVID.

“Conservatives will keep standing up for all Canadians and we won’t stop until all mandates are lifted and Canada has a strong post-pandemic strategy.
