For immediate release: Earlier today in Ottawa, Conservative Party of Canada Leader the Hon. Erin O’Toole announced his Shadow Cabinet for the 44th Parliament, set to return on Nov. 22, 2021.
Barrie-Innisfil Member of Parliament John Brassard has been named Shadow Minister for Ethics and Accountable Government. Brassard moves from Veterans Affairs to take over the ethics role from Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MP Michael Barrett who becomes Deputy House Leader.
“I am very excited to be asked to serve as Ethics and Accountable Government Shadow Minister,” Brassard said. “If the last six years are any indication, I expect to be extremely busy holding the Trudeau government to account on issues of ethics, conflicts of interest, accountability, lobbying, and privacy.”
Brassard was referring to the numerous scandals, ethics violations and conflict of interest investigations and findings of guilt of the Prime Minister and his government since 2015.
“Michael did a great job exposing scandals like WE Charity and other significant ethics violations,” he said. “I look forward to meeting with him as I transition into this new position, to get an update on several files and the current investigations taking place.”
Brassard served as Shadow Minister for Veterans Affairs since 2019 and will continue his advocacy and support for Canadian veterans and their families.
“I have a deep and profound respect for those who served and continue to serve our country, and I will work with the new Shadow Minister of Veterans Affairs to make sure their issues and their voices are heard,” he said. My office will always be there to help our veterans and their families.”
