John Brassard is the first Member of Parliament of the new Electoral District of Barrie-Innisfil, serving as the Deputy Opposition Whip in Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition.  After a nine-year career on Barrie City Council, John was elected to Parliament in October 2015.

    For over thirty years, John served as a firefighter.   During that time, he developed a great deal of experience in labour relations through his service as an Executive Member of the Markham Professional Firefighter’s Association, including a three-year term as its President.

    John also has a background in business as a co-owner of a sports apparel marketing company; a venture he founded with his father.

    John has been married to Liane for 30 years.  They have four children—Jeff, Courtney, Matt, and Mitch.

    During his time on Barrie City Council, John was well-known for his incredible constituency work and community involvement.   He also served as Chair on several committees, including Community Services, Economic Development, Infrastructure, Development Services, and Transit.

    Interim Conservative Leader Rona Ambrose appointed the newly elected Brassard as the critic for Urban Affairs in November of 2015. Less than a year later in October of 2016, John was promoted to the Conservative Shadow Cabinet as the Opposition Critic for Veterans Affairs.  John was honoured to serve Canada’s Veterans.  In that time, he built a great deal of trust and was honest with Veterans and their families.

    On August 30, 2017, M.P. Brassard joined the Leadership Team of the Conservative Party of Canada when he was appointed by Leader Andrew Scheer to serve as Deputy Opposition Whip.

    John works tirelessly for the people he represents in Barrie and Innisfil.  He is a strong voice for Barrie-Innisfil in Ottawa.
