This morning the Conservative caucus has voted to remove leader Erin O’Toole and we will be voting later today to elect an interim leader.
First, I would like to thank Erin for his service as CPC leader over the past 18 months. The job of Leader of the Official Opposition is always challenging, and that was especially true during a pandemic. I also want to thank his wife Rebecca and their children Mollie and Jack for supporting Erin and for their personal sacrifice as the family of the Leader of the Opposition and Conservative Party of Canada. I consider him a friend who has helped me in both my role as an MP and when I was Critic for Veterans’ Affairs.
It’s now time for us to move forward with a new leader who will step up to unite Canadians in all regions of this great country. It’s time to stop, once and for all, the unprecedented division created by Justin Trudeau – a division never before seen in this country.
It’s clear that Canadians want to move on from COVID and they want the government to focus on the many serious issues that are impacting our lives today, including inflation, housing attainability and affordability. Canadians deserve solutions and a strong exit plan from the pandemic.
Conservatives will be the voice for workers, small businesses and all Canadians. We will hold Justin Trudeau to account and work hard to strengthen the economy and make life more affordable for families, young people and seniors across Canada.
I am ready for the challenges ahead and I will continue to be a strong and pragmatic voice for Barrie-Innisfil.
