For the 15th consecutive year, Barrie South-Innisfil Member of Parliament John Brassard is recognizing local high school graduates with $200 scholarships awarded at all eight area secondary schools.

Personally funded by MP Brassard and his wife Liane, the annual scholarships are awarded to students pursuing post-secondary studies in political science, Canadian history, or civics. The program was launched in 2010, during Brassard’s tenure as a Barrie city councillor, to encourage young Canadians with an interest in public service.

“This scholarship began as a simple gesture to support students interested in politics and public life, but over the years, it’s grown into something more personal,” said MP Brassard. “Each time I meet these recipients, I’m reminded that the future of our country is in thoughtful, capable hands. Liane and I are proud to play a small part in helping them get started.”

One graduating student at each Barrie South-Innisfil secondary school will receive a scholarship based on academic achievement, community involvement and leadership potential.

Brassard or a member of his constituency office team will attend graduation ceremonies to present the awards in person.

“Graduation is more than an academic milestone—it’s a turning point,” Brassard added. “We want to encourage these students to stay engaged, ask hard questions, and lead with integrity as they begin their next chapter.”
